This also applies to men! I have seen both sides. I believe that some don’t realize they do it but others do and it is really sad. I cringe every time I am around a couple that consistently belittle their partner and treat them like they are an idiot. For that matter I can’t stand for ANYONE to be belittled. Been there, had that happened! It does nothing for ones self esteem.
FYI!! If you are with someone that does this on purpose then get out! If they think you are that ignorant then why are they with you?? and why are you with them???
This is a serious form of abuse!
That is why as a couple you need to talk about things not talk at each other. Discuss if something is bothering you and the way you feel you are being treated. Some don’t realize they are evening committing a form of abuse. If they listen to you and try to change then they truly love you and if they don’t listen and scoff at you for even mentioning it – then get out!
A relationship should be built on trust, respect, and honesty.
I started out trying to say that one must have honesty in order to have a great relationship but in truth there is more than just honesty. There are several things that make up a great relationship.
Everyone wants that soul-mate, one of a kind, best love ever, fairy tale relationship but unfortunately not everyone wants to put in the effort. It takes both people putting in time and energy. Every relationship needs to start out as friends. Friends will do anything for each other and love each other regardless. When you have a true friendship then honesty, trust, understanding, and communication follow. When couples are friends and communicate then they have the freedom that comes with it because they trust each other to be honest.
The key to honesty is that you are HONEST about everything regardless of what it is. It is better to get the truth out in the open and deal with it as it comes. The most common problem couples face is that they worry about hurting the other person’s feelings, being embarrassed or the most common – what they don’t know won’t hurt them oi- unfortunately it does. This is where communication comes into play. Couples must learn how to sit down and talk to each other about everything regardless of what the issues are.
Good Luck and Best Wishes to a Great Relationship!
